Beautiful Day 2007 Conference

What is it all about?

When churches venture down the road of intentional compassion it organically begins to shift their ministry paradigms while impacting the margins of their communities. Our desire and objective is to respond to the un-churched-pandemic in and around the Bay Area (and beyond) by handing leaders practical tools to be missional rather than attractional.

Beautiful Day

is a multi-layered philosophy that brings compassion to communities surrounding the local church, unifies churches under the banner of compassion, networks entities for a greater impact (churches, organizations, businesses, education, government, media, entertainment, health-care), and moves churches towards a missional model.

Who should attend?

The conference is open to all pastors and leaders in your church or organization leadership team. If there is more than one person from your church attending it would be helpful for us to have each attendee registered!!!

At the conference we will cover :

  1. The Spiritual Crisis in the Bay Area and the US
  2. Moving towards the Missional Model
  3. The Philosophy of Beautiful Day
  4. Leadership, Discipleship and the heart of Christ

Breakout sessions will include:

  • Living Well (local HIV/AIDS ministry)… Living Well is a Beautiful Day ministry that focuses on compassion, care, support, and advocacy for the marginalized within the local community, primarily dealing with those who are suffering from HIV/AIDS. Through Compassion we can respond to the needs of the growing HIV/AIDS pandemic through community center service, AIDS testing and awareness, addressing the issues of HIV/AIDS in the church and the workplace, local AIDS walks, and hospice care. Through Living Well you will learn how to take your church or organization through a step by step approach to responding to the HIV/AIDS pandemic locally.

Better Homes (makeovers for the marginalized)… Just drive through any neighborhood and you can see the margins in homes and schools that are in disrepair and need of some TLC. Each city has houses cited for blight… of which there are people who fall through the cracks (the elderly, disabled, veteran, single mom, and the low-income school) who cannot bring their properties up to code. Beautiful Day Better Homes brings transformation through landscaping, painting, debris removal, construction, artistic décor and more. Teams of people hit these “extreme makeovers” with a vengeance to impact the margins and radically alter our own lives through active service and compassion. Through Better Homes you will learn how to identify homes (and schools) in need of repair and how to mobilize a work crew, layout a “makeover” game plan, partner with local business and government agencies, and bring the “wow-factor” to those in need.

School Impact (short-term/long term campus involvement)… School Impact is designed to build/deepen the relationship with the schools surrounding the local church through directed acts of service (Big Ticket) and looking for on-going service venues (Season Ticket). Through School Impact you will learn about identifying and accommodating specific needs of any/all of the school, administration, student body, teachers, and extended school families. School Impact will teach the church about taking the lead in creative collaboration with businesses and organizations that will partner in specific projects and resources to maximize service venues.

Beautiful Day Weekend (a united regional compassion weekends)… Beautiful Day Weekend is a concerted effort to facilitate multiple compassion service venues coordinated by multiple churches in and around a particular community. Each church hosts projects that would impact their immediate surroundings while collaborating with neighboring churches on network projects that serve regional needs. Having churches work together not only impacts a community, but also demonstrates to the community at large how unity, creativity, and compassion can come from churches of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. Through Beautiful Day Weekend you will learn how to identify particular needs within your community, assessing the size/scope of a project, generate all-church participation, build leadership teams, manage finances, and more.

Developing relationships and partnerships with local government… Some of the greatest partnerships on Compassion and Justice issues come about when the church and the local government collaborate together to bring about positive change in the local community. Most government agencies willingly recognize that they can only go so far to help those in need and some will admit they the need the church to step in to bring about lasting change through spiritual guidance and relationship. For years the church and state have distanced themselves in so many arenas that relationships and partnerships are few and far between. Our goal is to rebuild a trust between the church and the local government and to develop a healthy co-dependency that allows both groups to serve one another as well as serve the community.

Compassion in the Underresourced Communities… Every town or city across the US has underresourced communities of people that are marginalized and financially struggling. These are usually communities that are forgotten and left to deteriorate under poverty, crime, poor education, and few resources. These are the neighborhoods where violence and intimidation is common place… where gangs and drugs rule the streets… where injustice happens within the community… and generations of people grow up with misguided values that perpetuate the problem. These communities are where the church is needed most. In Compassion in the underresourced communities we will highlight some neighborhoods who have been recently marked by transformation through the acts of service and investment in peoples lives.

Community Groups & Compassion … Many churches are either community group (small group) driven or are on their way to becoming a church of community groups. In some churches there are groups that have a long history of being together with very little life application. By facilitating Compassion venues for Community Groups, church leaders open up opportunities for groups who “study and serve together… to grow together in a deeper way”. Many groups have had found that serving together infuses their group with life and practical applications that they would have missed otherwise.
In Community Groups & Compassion you will learn how to mobilize groups to serve through empowering creation of on-going service opportunities, generating a community group compassion calendar, producing discussion points for group leaders, and more.

Students & Compassion... Students from College to Jr. High will make up a strong percentage of your work crew, partly because they are motivated by their leader, while intrinsically they respond to the call of compassion more than anyone in your church. As one writer put it, “Compassion is the new apologetic” meaning, serving teaches students more about the life of Jesus than telling them ever would. In Students & Compassion you will learn from local pastors and leaders who have walked along side students in this “new” apologetic. This session will cover how to couple service and discipleship, teaching “follow-up” ideas, appropriate projects for specific ages, and more.

Kids & Compassion… From pre-school to elementary, kids in western culture are faced with more and pressures than ever before. School, sporting, and music are just a few of the many schedules parents find themselves juggling for their kids and families that it isn’t surprising that kids get to middle school having completely missed the concept of compassion and serving the needs of others. Serving, giving, and meeting the needs of others is a fundamental principle that lays the ground work for kids capturing the heart of Jesus and becoming more compassionate to the world around them and eventually their generation. In Kids & Compassion you will learn Creative Compassion for Clever Kids, Giving principles, values-based learning, challenging parents, and more.
